Meet the Team: Career Story: Darragh Cleary, Recruitment Manager, Funds and Asset Management

In this article, you’ll meet Darragh Cleary, Recruitment Manager in the Funds and Asset Management team. We’re always keen to share the variety of career stories from the team at Azon, to show the depth of expertise, and also to share how varied all of the journeys are!

How long have you been at Azon?

I joined Azon in October 2019 as a Graduate, and progressed to Recruitment Consultant. Thereafter I became a Senior Recruitment Consultant and most recently to Manager. I specialise in Funds and Asset Management recruitment.

Before Azon where had you worked?

I completed an 8 month industrial placement with Aldi Ireland, where I gained experience across various departments within the business. Prior to that, I held several part-time roles in customer services during my time at university.

What brought you to Azon?

From my time in Aldi – I gained strong experience in Recruitment & Sales Management – which pointed me in the direction of Recruitment. Azon appealed to me as the boutique size of the company allows broad exposure, whilst facilitating accelerated career progression. Working alongside industry experts was a big factor in my decision to move to Azon.

What were some of your first impressions of Azon?

Right from the start, my manager at Azon created a training plan for my first three months and mapped out what I would need to achieve to progress to the next level. The support and pathway on offer impressed me. I knew from that point I was in a company which placed employee development at the forefront, as opposed to an excessively KPI driven environment.

Coming straight from University, the social aspect to Azon was great. Weekly company coffee mornings, Friday wrap up beers, quarterly company-wide events, and a collaborative team environment, are all major components which lead to enhanced job satisfaction.

Why do you think Azon is different from other recruitment companies?

Throughout my time in Azon, my manager and the senior leadership team have been great at backing and encouraging new ideas. If I want to grow in a new area or add to my team, I always know that I have their support.

What kind of opportunities are there for recruiters here at Azon?

The pace of progression in Azon is really attractive and presents great opportunities for new recruiters joining the company. There is great scope to move through the levels, with continued support from senior management.

When you identify areas for improvement there’s always an opportunity to present your case to the leadership team. These proposals are welcomed and taken seriously.

In addition to this, you can gain exposure to clients through attending client meetings and meeting industry experts in your sector. This is invaluable in one’s personal and professional development.

What other supports do you find helpful at Azon?

Azon’s initial training gives you a great framework to the start of your time at the company.

In addition to this, regular personal development training sessions are done on a quarterly basis by industry experts in a variety of areas.

What do you like most about working at Azon?

The autonomy and trust given to employees.

What words of wisdom would you share with someone just joining the team at Azon?

Follow the guidance of your manager and be fully open to constructive criticism throughout your career here. Embrace the peaks and troughs in recruitment, as persistence will always outweigh resistance!
