Why Receptionists are the Most Important People in the Office

Azon’s HR and Business consultants discuss why front of house receptionists are vital to any business.

While many people view the role of the receptionist as not so important, this couldn’t be less true! The role of the receptionist is vital for the smooth running of any business.

Here are a few reasons why YOU could be the most important person in the office;

1) First impressions

Receptionists are basically a brand ambassador for the company, they are often the first person and sometimes the only person that people have contact with when coming in to the office for a meeting or just calling up for information. Any client that enters the office, their initial judgments of the business are based on their experience with this individual. A receptionists first impressions reflects on the entire company

2) Resourcefulness

Not only do they manage reception and meet & greet clients, they also always seem to have the solution for any problem that pops up!? A great receptionist takes on the role of everything; administrative duties, making travel arrangements, booking conference rooms, and are even able to handle those tricky phone calls (the ones we always dread!) They always make sure everyone’s schedules are on track and makes sure the business is running smoothly

3) They can do anything

A receptionist can literally do anything…..anything. You can rely on them for their flexibility, and the ability to adapt quickly to new situations. The receptionist knows everyone in the office (unlike most employees) and gets involved in all departments, helping out where necessary. They always know whats going on, which is especially good when new employees or clients enter the business, as they can answer any questions.

4) They acquire great organisation skills

One of the key skills you must acquire to be a receptionist are organisational skills. Time management is one of their strong points and will help you out immensely when needed! As mentioned above, a receptionist would manage your schedule, they are great at organising duties that employees might not have time for! They can get you a phone number with the click of a button and put you in contact with someone in seconds, they certainly have their heads screwed on!

5) They’re communicate with everyone

The key asset a receptionist must hold is the ability to speak well and convey information clearly. They are also great listeners and will help with whatever is asked of them! They are great at making people feel at ease when entering the business and always finds out all the information possible!
