Financial Accountant

Our client is Ireland’s leading law firm, encompassing all aspects of corporate and business law, with offices in Ireland (HQ), UK and US. We are recruiting for a Financial Accountant to join their finance function, and be one of five finance professionals within the Financial Control Team. The Financial Accountant will report to the Finance Manager and Group Financial Controller.

Key Responsibilities

As a Financial Accountant your responsibilities will include:

* Preparation and posting of month end journals, including accruals and prepayments.

* Working as part of a team to produce accurate and timely (WD5) monthly management accounts.

* Preparation of month end and quarter end P&L and Balance Sheet reconciliations, including the resolution of any queries or issues arising (at both a reconciliation and root-cause level).

* Working with budget holders to produce budgets, forecasts, capex plans and conducting variance analysis, acting as a business partner to our cost centre budget holders.

* Reviewing outputs from the Accounts Payable, Banking and Accounts Receivable teams and authorising payments.

* Preparation of the annual and quarterly accounts required under the Solicitors’ Regulations, including resolution of any queries or issues.

* Working with our clients tax function to prepare tax filings (e.g., VAT, Corporation Tax and Partnership Form 1) by providing financial data and analysis to support tax addback and other relevant workings required for complete and accurate tax filing information.

* Supporting the preparation of the annual financial statements to review stage, including liaison with external auditors, and providing the schedules, information and supporting materials necessary to allow the auditors to complete their work in an efficient and satisfactory manner.

* Contributing to the development of the accounting processes and controls, by challenging existing practices and identifying more efficient or effective ways of working.

* Supporting system changes or enhancements, by participating in working groups, project teams and conducting user acceptance testing etc.

* Other ad-hoc projects or reporting as required.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

* Motivated Chartered (ACA) or Certified (ACCA) Accountant.

* Diligent, with a passion for process simplification and improvement.

* Curious, with track record of exploiting system functionality for efficiency and effectiveness.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

* Advanced MS Excel skills.

* Experience with 3E and Iridium would be advantageous.

* Previous experience in a professional services firm environment would useful, but not essential.
